Take Action
Primary Elections for County Executive, County Commissioner, and NJ state legislature are just around the corner on June 6. Join us on Monday May 15 at 6pm, at the Five Corners Library, where candidates are being invited to share their views and commitments on safe and sustainable transportation with us, the voters. Come learn about the candidates and make a choice in our shared future. Hudson County and these elected representatives make decisions that directly affect our daily lives, including decisions about main roads like JFK Blvd, the Viaduct, Lincoln Park, greenways, and bus routes.
Jersey City and Hoboken, two cities within the county that have adopted Vision Zero programs to make roads safer for all road users, achieved zero deaths last year, but our county and state roads remain some of the most dangerous. There were 706 traffic fatalities last year in NJ. Pedestrian deaths hit a 30-year high in 2021. In 2023 so far, there have been 173 YTD statewide which is 25% higher than 2021.
In the candidate forum, we’ll be asking candidates questions directly about public transportation issues, including bus and PATH service, safety on our roadways, a county-wide multi-use cycle path, and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority’s proposed $10.7 billion planned Turnpike demolition, reconstruction, and widening through Jersey City, which has been met with significant public and municipal opposition.
