Suggested Talking Points
Curb extension at Congress Street:
Congress St elevator is a huge transit hub due to the high-number of passengers for the 119 bus and using the elevator to get to light rail or simply cross between the Heights and Hoboken. The Paterson Plank at Congress St crosswalk is 40 ft wide even though it only has two lanes of traffic (one each way), which should only be 21 ft wide in total.
Narrow lanes:
Paterson Plank has lanes as wide as 14ft on the straightaways which are highway widths that encourage speeding. Lanes should be 10.5ft at most. (10.5 ft and not 10ft because buses use Paterson Plank)
Eliminate the extra lanes at the bottom of the hill:
These merge into a single lane anyways. They also encourage speeding and aggressive driving and make the important pedestrian and bike crossing very dangerous.
Do not add median Jersey Barriers and consider cyclists who are using the roadway every day without safe alternatives:
While median Jersey Barriers do prevent centerline crashes, they also increase speeds which will endanger pedestrians and cyclists. Center Jersey Barriers are more appropriate for highway environments.
